I completed nursing school in December and the stress associated with this program caused me to gain quite a bit of weight – putting me at my heaviest mark ever in my life. In addition, I was unable to continue working out as regularly as I would like and that definitely contributed to my gains. Now that school is out and I have a good job, I need to get back on track. What better way than to join the 90 day challenge competition!
My plan is to acquire a trainer, workout regularly, consume higher volumes of protein and portion control. I can lose weight and eat better on my own, but the extra motivation of competition (and cash prizes) can give me that extra eggs I need to get going and stay going. Also, my children need and deserve a better example as a father if I should ever try to coerce them into adopting a healthy lifestyle.
What a joyous day! I stepped on the scale today and found out that I have lost a grand total of 65 pounds over the course of the last 90 days! I completed nursing school in December and the stress associated with this program caused me to gain quite a bit of weight – putting me at my heaviest mark ever in my life. I began working out more regularly and that definitely contributed to my gains (losses!) School is out and I have a good job, I needed to get back on track and that’s precisely what I did. My mind said, “What better way than to join the 90 day challenge competition!”
I acquired a trainer and together we began to work out some of the muscles I have that were long neglected. I started out sore … oh so sore … but eventually I embraced the soreness for what it was – my body healing and becoming better. There were certainly days that I wanted to stop early, go home, eat a half gallon of ice cream, and let myself go back to being ‘comfortable’. It took a lot of inner digging to tell myself that I was uncomfortable with the way I was and that ‘comfortable’ translated to ‘easy’. The first few weeks were definitely the most difficult, but also the most rewarding. I would work out regularly, consume higher volumes of protein and exercise portion control.
I knew I could lose weight and eat better on my own, but the extra motivation of competition gave me that extra edge I needed to get going and stay going. The results were also very motivating because the more I lost, the more I wanted to keep losing. After the first month, I did not crave sweets or sodas anymore. My body started craving more water so I would drink nearly a gallon every day. My clothes started fitting better and even falling off!
I had sleep apnea and high blood pressure and by the end of my ninety days, I no longer needed to use the C-PAP machine and my hypertension medications had been reduced significantly! I am down from XXL clothing to L clothing! All these wonderful results due to portion control, protein increase, and a personal trainer who pushed me beyond my own predefined limits.
My children needed and deserve a better example as a father if I should ever try to coerce them into adopting a healthy lifestyle. I want to keep this healthy lifestyle going so when those cute little eyes look up at me, they see their daddy who persevered during adversity rather than taking the easy way out – possibly setting them up to do the same in the future. I also wanted to be someone that my wife would be proud of to be around … I do not think she was ashamed to be seen with me previously, but I definitely think that she is more proud of me now that I have achieved my goal.
