Jennifer was a finalist in our 2013 90-Day Challenge. Jennifer had already lost 20 lbs before starting Bodyworks’ 90 Day Challenge. But that didn’t keep her from pushing forward and getting amazing results.
Jennifer’s Before Essay
I am a 27 year old mother of two amazing daughters. I decided to enter the 90 day weight loss challenge, because I have been overweight for the past ten years. I know my children need me around for a very long time and I want to set a good example for them. If I do not get a handle on it now, I know in a few years I could possibly be morbidly obese. I am not proud of the way I have put on so much weight. I was in an abusive relationship for most of those ten years, and I let myself go and began living to eat instead of eating to live. I am ready for a change to get healthy, and set that better example for my daughters. Now that I am not involved in that abusive relationship I can do whatever it takes to reach all of my goals.
From this day forward I will strive to make it to the gym four times a week. While at the gym, I will do exercises in cardio and resistance in attempts to gain some muscle mass which will help in burning fat. Those exercises will include, but not limited to, swimming, Jacobs latter, running on the treadmill, and jump roping.
Not only will I commit my time to the gym. I will also put together a much healthier eating regimen. I will no longer overindulge in the sweets like I did before. I used to eat a pint of ice cream a few times a week; instead I will now enjoy healthier options. Those healthier options will include yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, and continue to stay away from sodas and drink only water.
At my heaviest weight I was 192lbs, I have been able to achieve weight loss on my own without working out. However, I would like to do so much more and become the healthy person I know I can be and have been before. After speaking with a trainer, and learning my body fat percentage and the motivation of this competition I will do everything in my power to be the most transformed person in 90 days. I want to do it the right way this time, and ensure that this becomes a life change and will never have to worry about gaining the weight back again.
Jennifer’s After Essay
August 24th marked the end of my 90-day weight loss challenge with Body Works. My goal was to lose some weight and become more active to allow myself to be around as long as possible for my children. In these 90 days I pushed myself to take control of my life by changing my eating habits and becoming more active. I may not have lost a lot of pounds, but I did lose about 3 1/2 inches around my waist. I am happy with the lifestyle changes I have made and will continue to this journey in hopes of losing more weight and getting fit.
Some of the smallest changes I made were the ones to have the biggest impact on my journey to lose weight, and get fit. For example, instead of waking up in the mornings and either indulging in multiple bowls of sugar coated cereal or having no breakfast at all. I have learned how important it is to keep my body energized throughout the day, and to do that I need to start with a well-balanced breakfast. I started with having an egg with a piece of whole-wheat plain toast and about 1/2 cup of fruit. I now understand having breakfast takes your body out of starvation mode since it has been hours since last eating a meal. Therefore preventing my body from storing fat, because it thinks it is starving. Also changing from three large meals a day to five small meals a day allowed me to keep my metabolism going throughout the day.
I made it my goal to make it to the gym about four times a week. Having children did not make that a very easy goal for me, but I did do my best to get to the gym four times a week. My workouts consist of about 35 minutes of cardio on the treadmill or the elliptical. After my cardio I then would do another 35 minutes of mixed routines between the ropes, Jacobs latter, planking, and many other ply metrics. Staying consistent in my workout routine did allow me to start slimming down. I do feel like over the past few years I have began to plateau, that being said I also took it upon myself to start jogging outside, I even took it as far as to run up and down the side of Loop 289 for a boost on my workout. Even though I did not reach my weight loss goal, I did gain some muscle, and I plan on continuing my entire lifestyle change.
